Create a budget habit - it works!

I looked at and used most of the popular budget programs. They didnt get me on track like good budget. Its easy to use and, for me, was the one that instilled the habit of living to a budget into my daily culture.

My advice? Forget about the details of tracking all your transactions automatically by connecting to your online bank account. Just set up the envelopes that relate to your discretionary spending and manually enter every penny you spend on those categories. Just tracking it will change your behaviour and have you living to a budget.

The non-discretionary stuff will take care of itself if youve set a budget for the year overall.

Only one thing I think needs to be changed. I had to buy two separate annual accounts for my wife and I. I wanted to have separate budgets and envelopes for her and I. And, I didnt want the clutter of having them all in one budget - ie John-gas and Anne-gas.

That aside, this program is really working for us.
